Step 1: Trademark Search in Malaysia

You may still do so. However, you might be flushing resources (time & money) down the drain because you might already have a pending/registered mark with MyIPO! The old-forgotten-project done by yourself, your employee or ex-employee. Attending the old application / registration would save cost than having duplicate registration.
Also, there could be similar trademark applications in the database filed by your competitor, friend, uncle, aunty or some complete stranger, which would hinder the registration of your trademark. At this point, you might want to consider amending or changing your trademark. We provide graphic design services too! We’ll make sure your trademark is registrable!
In short, this step is important to determine whether your trademark is registrable with MyIPO or not.
Step 2: Trademark Application
If all goes well in Step 2, it is time to submit your application with MyIPO. Fill in the forms and pay the prescribed fees. Application number will be issued within the same day.
The application will then undergo examinations and the Examiner should be able to deliver his/her decision within 4 -12months, from the date of filing.
Make sure you have all the right and required borang (forms) with you, otherwise this may delay the trademark registration process.
Step 3: At last! Publication/ Registration of a Trademark
After a 4-12 months wait, the Registrar should accept registration of your trademark if your trademark complies to the registrable requirement stipulated in Malaysia Trade Mark Act 1976.
Registration will last for 10 years from the date of filing. Remember to renew every 10 years, otherwise your registration will lapse!
