2-years ago, Apple Inc filed a patent for a method of creating virtual group selfies whilst maintaining social distancing. This was before COVID-19 and the original intent was probably to solve the issue of family and friends wanting to take group photos but certain individuals are far apart, like studying abroad perhaps.
We have all seen how some creative people manipulate the group photos by inserting their own faces into the photo, or having a family or friend on video-call on their mobile device and including that device in the group photo.
This patent filed by Apple will solve that issue.
Every individual takes their own selfie on their own devices, the device will remove the background and isolate the portrait. Next, every person will share this photo to a single user, whom will then combine all the individual selfies into a single “group” photo.
We’re unsure if this patent will be made available to the masses in future updates, but in the new normal world with social distancing, very soon we might just be able to take that perfect virtual group selfie and still maintain social-distancing.
